Atwood Osprey build on schedule at Jurong

The Atwood Osprey ultra-deepwater semisubmersible drilling rig is on schedule for delivery in early 2011, according to Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd.

SINGAPORE – The Atwood Osprey ultra-deepwater semisubmersible drilling rig is on schedule for delivery in early 2011, according to Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd. It is destined for Chevron Australia Pty Ltd.’s Greater Gorgon area off northwestern Australia.

The vessel is the first of two such rigs contracted by Atwood Oceanics from Jurong. The Friede & Goldman ExD Millennium Class rig is designed to be moored in water depths up to 6,000 ft (1,828 m) with its own mooring equipment and to drill to 35,000 ft (10,668 m). With pre-laid mooring, the vessel can operate in 8,200 ft (2,499 m) of water.

The second semisubmersible is scheduled for delivery by mid-2012.
