RIDING MILL, UK -- IHC Engineering Business/SAS should deliver their first jointly developed flex-lay system early in 2012.

The 300-metric ton (330-ton) equipment will upgrade an existing horizontal lay system onboard McDermott’s North Ocean 102.

This dynamically positioned, fast-transit vessel is designed is for subsea construction and pipelay installation, and features 7,000-metric ton (7,716-ton) capacity horizontal reel carousel. It also installs deepwater moorings for floating facilities. Upgrades planned for 2011 will increase its deepwater capabilities.

The 102’s carousel was previously provided by IHC EB, and the horizontal tensioner system by SAS. For the upgrade program, the duo are working together to provide integration and production of the lay system tower, with SAS supplying new tensioner systems.
