ESBJERG, Denmark – Blue Water Shipping has won a contract to transport a newbuild jackup to the Caspian Sea for Eurasia Drilling.
TheLe Tourneau S116(E) design jackup is under construction by Lamprell at the Hamriyah facility in Sharjah (UAE).
Blue Water will transport 85,000 cu m (3 million cf) of cargo with a total weight of 8,205 metric tons (9,044 tons), of which the heaviest component will weigh 1,050 metric tons (1,157 tons). Due to the limited breadth and draught of the river system locks, these facilities must be separated into smaller sections for reassembly on arrival at the Caspian.
Individual units will be transported on heavy-lift vessels from Dubai to the Black Sea for subsequent transfer to river barges and the onward voyage through the river system to the Caspian Sea. Transportation will be performed in three shipments, starting in March, and is due to be completed within four months.
