BREDA, the Netherlands –Dockwise (OSLO:DOCK) has decided to convert its Type 2 Black Marlin transportation vessel to a Type 1 vessel, similar to sister ship Blue Marlin.

The program will extend theBlackMarlin’s carrying capacity from 56,000 metric tons to 76,000 metric tons (61,729 to 83,775 tons). Dockwise plans to issue tenders for the design engineering and ship construction contracts immediately, for execution of the conversion in 2014.

Dockwise is making this move after securing of a Letter of Intent for transport in 2015 transport of a spar buoy from the North Sea to the Gulf of Mexico.

The conversion will take around three months and will be performed during a scheduled dry dock overhaul in 2014. It follows the company’s commissioning of theVanguard vessel, and addition of the COOEC Type 2 vessel HYSY 278, and signifies a drive to provide greater capacity and flexibility for the largest and most demanding offshore projects.
