Samsung orders pump package for North Sea Mariner FSU

Samsung Heavy Industries has contracted Wärtsilä to provide pumps for a new floating storage unit (FSU) that will operate on Statoil’s Mariner oil field in the UK North Sea.

HELSINKI, Finland – Samsung Heavy Industries has contracted Wärtsilä to provide pumps for a new floating storage unit (FSU) that will operate on Statoil’s Mariner oil field in the UK North Sea.

The FSU will be built in South Korea. Wärtsilä is due to deliver its equipment in spring 2015. The FSU is expected to be in operation in 2017.

Scope of supply includes 45 deep well process and cargo offloading pumps with electric motors and variable speed drive panels, three fire water pump skids, and two ballast pumps.

Mariner is expected to produce on average 55,000 b/d of oil over 30 years. The FSU will have a storage capacity of 850,000 bbl.
