GORINCHEM, the Netherlands – Damen Shipyards Group and motion compensation access solutions provider Ampelmann have tested the latter’s L-Type personnel transfer system on board a Damen fast crew supplier (FCS) 5009 vessel.
The results led to a live demonstration of a combined Ampelmann and Damen solution at aNorth Sea gas production platform.
The L-type is the smallest ofAmpelmann’s systems, suited to smaller crew vessels, 30-50 m (98-164 ft) long, without DP.
It is said to provide safe and efficient operations in up to 1.5 m (4.9 ft) Hs wave conditions.
Damen business development manager David Stibbe said: “Once on the water we carried out in-depth interaction tests to demonstrate just how well the system and the vessel worked in tandem.”
Tests on the platform demonstrated that the L-type could be added to an existing Damen vessel to provide safe transport offshore, Stibbe added.
Ampelmann business development manager Crew Change Gerbrand Marbus said oil companies were seeking a crew change system that would improve safety and effectiveness relative to current helicopter, swing rope, surfer, or baskets transfers.
“However, they are not only interested in the gangway, they are in search of a proven integrated solution of vessel with gangway and that is what we have produced together with Damen.”
