SALZBURG, Austria – Lamprell Energy has ordered four foldable knuckle boom cranes from Palfinger Marine for mounting on two jackup drilling rigs of the Le Tourneau Super 116 design, both currently under construction in the UAE.
The four PK 65002 MD cranes (maximum lifting moment of 60.2 metric tons, or 66.4 tons) will have a maximum outreach of 13.8 m (45 ft) and corresponding SWL of 3.2 tons in winch mode.
They will be mounted on the cantilever of the rigs to support daily drilling operations.
Palfinger says the fabricator chose its cranes because of their compact design, which allows them to operate in confined spaces, and the packaged solution that includes a power pack.
It will deliver two of the cranes this fall and the other two early next year.
