HAMILTON, Bermuda — Valaris reactivated the previously stacked drillship VALARIS DS-17 for a new long-term contract that started recently offshore Brazil.

In a results statement, Valaris President and CEO Anton Dibowitz said this was the seventh contract awarded to its previously stacked floaters since mid-2021. It now has 10 drillships in operation with another stacked drillship and options for two newbuild drillships.

As for the company’s jackups, reduced repair and maintenance costs arising from the sale of VALARIS 54 were offset by higher operating costs for VALARIS 249, which started a contract offshore Trinidad during the quarter after mobilizing from New Zealand.
