US Coast Guard medevacs crewmembers from two GoM vessels this week

The US Coast Guard medevacked a 50-year-old crewmember with an injury to his leg from an offshore supply vessel and a 65-year-old crewmember experiencing heart attack-like symptoms from a pipelayer vessel.

LOUISIANA  The US Coast Guard medevacked a crewmember from an offshore supply vessel May 18 about 11 miles southeast of Southwest Pass, La. 

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center watchstanders received a report at about 8 a.m. via VHF-FM channel 16 from the offshore supply vessel Brandon Bordelon of a 50-year-old male crewmember with an injury to his leg. Sector New Orleans watchstanders diverted a Coast Guard Station Venice Response-Boat-Medium boat crew to assist. The boat crew arrived on scene, embarked the crewmember aboard their vessel and transported him to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Coast Guard Station Venice. EMS transported him to Ochsner Medical Center Westbank Campus in Gretna, Louisiana.

The crewmember was last reported in stable condition.

Earlier this week, the US Coast Guard medevacked a crewmember from Allseas' pipelayer Solitaire May 16 about 13 miles south of Port Fourchon, La.

Coast Guard Eighth District and Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center watchstanders received a report at about noon from the Solitaire of a 65-year-old male crewmember experiencing heart attack-like symptoms. Sector New Orleans watchstanders diverted a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew to assist. The aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the crewmember and transported him to University Medical Center in New Orleans.

The crewmember was last reported in stable condition, Coast Guard said.

This is the third medical evacuation from the Solitaire this year. In March, the US Coast Guard medevacked a Solitaire vessel crew member experiencing seizure-like symptoms, and in April the US Coast Guard medevacked a 32-year-old male Solitaire crewmember experiencing severe abdominal pain.
