SCHIEDAM, the Netherlands  Havfram Wind has contracted Huisman to supply a 3,000 metric ton-plus leg encircling crane (LEC) for the company’s second NG-20000X wind turbine installation vessel.

CIMC Raffles is constructing the vessel, and Huisman's contract follows an earlier order in December 2022 for an identical crane to be installed on the first vessel.

The fully electric LEC will feature a 155-m boom with a lifting height of about 180 m above deck. Havfram has adapted the design to specific turbine and foundation installation requirements, with improved capabilities to install next-generation wind turbines in more severe conditions.

In addition, the LEC has been optimized for installation of bottom-fixed foundations in combination with Huisman’s monopile grippers and pre-piling templates. And the crane’s small tail swing is said to provide optimal deck space.

Huisman will manufacture the second LEC at its facility in Zhangzhou, China.
