NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, UK—Royston has completed an overhaul of propulsion systems onboard the P&O-ownedTopaz Sophie OSV for Doha Marine Services.
A team of engineers travelled to the local shipyard in Qatar to oversee work on two Niigata Z-peller thrusters on the 75-m-long vessel, under a maintenance and overhaul program that included removing and refitting propellers, renewing steering seals, determining water ingress and oil leaks, checking gearboxes, rebuilding seal boxes, and fitting new seals and gaskets.
An engineering inspection of the port steering seal revealed heavy wear marks, which entailed removal and fitting of replacement parts before final reassembly.
The team then checked and re-fitted port and starboard rope guards before the Z-pellers were fully tested and the vessel returned to service.
