RIO DE JANERIO, Brazil  As a result of the progress of the development project of the Buzios Field in the presalt of the Santos Basin, Petrobras signed, 4/10, with Sembcorp Marine Rigs & Floaters a contract for the construction of the P-82 platform.

The FPSO unit will be one of the largest to operate in the oil and gas industry worldwide, according to the company, with capacity to produce up to 225,000 bbl/d of oil and process up to 12 million m³ of gas per dayin addition to storing more than 1.6 MMbbl.

Buzios is the largest deepwater field in the world and will have a whole 11 platforms. Four units are already in operation (P-74, P-75, P-76 and P-77), and another four are in the process of being built (FPSO Almirante Barroso, FPSO Admiral Tamandaré, P-78 and P-79) and two more had recently signed contracts for construction (P-80 and P-83).

The P-82 will be the 10th platform to be installed in Buzios and is scheduled to start operating in 2026.

Petrobras is the operator of the field with a 92.6% stake, with CNOOC and CNODC as partners, with 3.7% each.

P-82 will be the 29th unit to go into production in the presalt and integrates the new generation of Petrobras platforms, which the company says "are characterized by high production capacity and innovative low-carbon technologies."

The unit will incorporate, for example, the so-called closed flare technology, which increases the use of gas in a safe and sustainable way, and prevents it from being burned into the atmosphere. Another innovation will be the methane gas detection system, capable of acting in the prevention or mitigation of risks of leaks of this compound, Petrobras said.

The platform will also be equipped with the CCUS technology.

Additionally, digital twins consists of virtual playback of the platform to enable simulations and remote tests before the platform is in operation, a factor that aims to ensure safety and operational reliability.
