BERGEN, Norway  Tidewater Rederi has contracted Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) to supply a battery charging package and associated control system for retrofitting to the M.V. North Pomor platform supply vessel (PSV).

NES will supply the equipment in connection with a forthcoming upgrade of the 2013-built vessel, currently equipped with diesel-electric propulsion.

The company will deploy teams in Bergen and Ålesund to design, assemble and test the battery package and control system, which it expects to deliver next summer.

According to NES, installing a battery package cuts fuel costs and opex, while also enhancing system reliability onboard.
