HAUGESUND, Norway  Edda Wind’s new service operation vessel Edda Goelo (C416) has launched at the Astilleros Balenciaga shipyard in Spain.

The vessel is due to start a five-year contract next summer for Siemens Gamesa at Iberdrola’s offshore wind farm in Saint-Brieuc Bay, western France.

It will support technicians performing maintenance work on offshore wind turbines.

The vessel can accommodate up to 40 maintenance technicians from Siemens Gamesa and Iberdrola, plus about 20 crew members from Edda Wind.

The technicians will work two-week shifts at the wind farm, with Edda Goelo then taking them back to shore and boarding another team for a further two-week stint, ensuring there are always technicians servicing the wind farm.

The Saint-Brieuc wind farm, with 62 SG 8.0-167 DD turbines, will have a capacity of 496 MW, with Siemens Gamesa providing maintenance for a minimum of 10 years, including spare part, and remote-control service.

In May Edda Wind took delivery of another newbuild wind service vessel, Edda Breeze, and Astilleros Balenciaga should hand over the Edda Brint service operation vessel in August.
