SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy  The Saipem 7000 semisubmersible crane vessel is preparing to resume operations at the Seagreen offshore wind farm development offshore eastern Scotland.

In mid-April, the main block wire of the vessel’s crane No. 1 broke during a five-year test, causing the main block and the test load to fall into the water.

Following initial testing, the vessel returned to a stable position, but then it had to undergo repair works, despite initial investigations revealing no significant structural damage.

Crane No. 2 has since obtained the certification needed for it to operate with a lifting capacity in line with Seagreen project technical requirements and workscope.

Saipem 7000 has installed 23 of the project’s foundation jackets, with the remaining 91 due to be installed from now until the end of this year.

Repairs to crane No. 1 should allow the vessel to return to its full lifting capacity by early 2023.
