SINGAPORESembcorp Marine has completed its work on the newbuild FPSO for the Equinor-operated Johan Castberg project in the Barents Sea.

The vessel has departed Singapore for Norway.

Sembcorp Marine’s scope of work comprised construction of the 140-person living quarters and hull. The latter was designed to comply with Norsok specifications and DNV Class Rules, taking into account winterization and other ocean data requirements at the far northern offshore location.

According to the fabricator, the FPSO also complies with the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority regulatory requirements.

Following topsides integration and final completion work in Norway, the FPSO will sail to the Johan Castberg field, 240 km (149 mi) from Hammerfest, northern Norway. The FPSO hull is self-contained for harsh-environment operations.

Wang Zijian, Sembcorp Marine’s head of Operations, said: “In the last two years, both Team Equinor and Team Sembmarine worked under extreme challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet both teams remained determined to keep the project going.”
