KONGSBERG, Norway – Norwind Offshore has commissioned equipment from Kongsberg Maritime for its two new commissioning service operations vessels that VARD will construct.
Kongsberg Maritime’s scope includes permanent magnet (PM) PMAZ 2600PM azimuth thrusters, PM tunnel thrusters, and a retractable azimuth thruster.
According to the company, the benefits include propulsion efficiency, manoeuvrability, reduced operational noise, lower emissions, and compact dimensions.
The PM thrusters have only one rotating component in the underwater unit, with no requirement for lubrication pumps or inboard cooling systems.
Other claimed benefits are reductions in energy consumption, emissions and oil spill risk when compared with conventional azimuth thrusters.
