ÅLESUND, Norway – Simon Møkster Shipping has commissioned Vard Electro to install SeaQ battery technology onboard the platform supply vessels Stril Orion and Stril Polar.
The SeaQ energy storage system (ESS) can store excess energy for later use and reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and operational strain on engines.
The energy management system and power management system control and monitor the hybrid system by communicating with existing control systems onboard.
The SeaQ ESS includes modes for peak shaving, spinning reserve, and zero emission transit.
Vard Electro is responsible for the engineering, steel prefabrication, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning.
The vessels are scheduled to be hybrid ready by the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, qualifying them for DNV’s Battery Power notation.
