TEHRAN, Iran – Pars Oil and Gas Co. (POGC) has contained a small fire on the drilling rig serving the South Pars Phase 11 gas development offshore Iran.

According to news service Shana, the fire broke out last week in the engine room of MAPNA Noor Kish Drilling Co.’s jackup MD-1, which is located at the SPD11B platform.

Soon after the incident, with staff transferred to a safe gathering zone and the rig returned to safe operating conditions, a crisis management committee was formed to identify and address the causes of the incident.

Initial analysis points to overheating of the tower power supply generators. Following a review, POGC will submit a report to the Iranian authorities.
