STAVANGER, Norway -- Equinor must improve its emergency preparedness measures following an investigation of a collision on June 7, 2019 between the supply vessel Sjøborg and the Statfjord A platform in the North Sea.

An audit by the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) in late May 2020 identified inadequate requirements specifications for emergency response vessels in the company’s governing documents; and an inadequate system for communicating emergency-preparedness performance requirements to emergency response vessels.

Equinor’s own in-house investigation had recommended three packages of measures as learning opportunities, while the PSA identified improvement points related to compliance with activity-specific operational guidelines and handling of bulk hoses.

It has set a deadline of Aug. 14 for the company to explain how it will address the non-conformities and assess the improvement point.
