ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands – Tug operator KOTUG International has decided to adopt of the Inmarsat Fleet Xpress high-speed broadband service offshore Western Australia.

This follows trials on board the 100-ton bollard pull tug Roebuck Bay, where the combination of Ka-band, continuously backed up by FleetBroadband, is said to have improved the stability of communications and available uptime. KOTUG will phase in Fleet Xpress connectivity to cover towage services supporting Shell’s Prelude floating LNG vessel.

The operator uses its own antennas and smart boxes on board, with business decisions supported by IT tools that manage the business from the company’s headquarters in the Netherlands.
