KØPERVIK, Norway – The Polish and Danish gas transport operators Gaz-System and Energinet have committed to invest in the Baltic Pipe development.
The project involves laying a pipeline spur from Norway across the southern North Sea to Denmark, and a further pipeline from eastern Denmark through the Baltic Sea to the Polish coast.
Norwegian pipeline system operator Gassco, on behalf of Energinet, studied the connection for the spur from the Europipe II pipeline to Denmark, and will also be responsible for the tie-in.
“A spur to Denmark will open a new landfall for Norwegian gas and thereby lay the basis for direct deliveries to new markets,” said Øystein Rossebø, Gassco’s vice president for development and innovation.
“Our most important concern in this process is to safeguard the integrity of Norway’s entire gas transport system.”
Baltic Pipe will have an overall length of 900 km (559 mi) offshore and will also cross the national territory of Sweden. The project is due to be completed in 2022.
