Offshore staff
OSLO, Norway – Statoil (OSE:STL; NYSE:STO) has awarded AF Group a contract, on behalf of operator Gassco, to remove and recycle the B-11 compressor platform in the German North Sea.
The platform is part of the Norpipe transport system exporting gas from Norwegian fields to mainland Europe. Last year,AF Gruppen was commissioned to perform similar removal duties on the associated H-7 riser platform. Both installations were constructed in the 1970s.
B-11 and H-7 were equipped with compressors that boosted pressure in the Norpipe line to drive more gas through to the receiving terminal at Emden on the German coast.
However, the need for pressure support eventually diminished, which led to the compressors on H-7 being shut down in 1999. A subsea loop was installed around the platform in 2007.
Subsea 7 will install a similar loop, roughly 350 m (1,148 ft) long, around B-11, with most of the work to be performed in 2013.
Environmental Base Vats on Norway’s west coast will be used as the decommissioning site for the B-11 platform. AF Gruppen’s scope covers planning, engineering, removal, and recycling. Work will start later this year and should be completed by end-2016.
The contract value is $83 million.
