OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has sanctioned the use of production facilities and associated pipelines and equipment on the Skuld oil field in the Norwegian Sea.

Skuld, operated by Statoil, is in license PL 128, north of the Norne production complex and roughly 200 km (124 mi) west of Sandnessjøen. Water depth in the area is 340 m (1,115 ft).

The field has been developed with three subsea templates tied into theNorne FPSO. Two pipelines have also been installed for gas lift and water injection on the Urd field, located between Skuld and Norne.

Statoil aims to start production from Skuld on Thursday.

In the same region, Statoil has consent from PSA for extended use of theFloatel Superior as a living quarter facility on the Njord field.

The original consent, issued on June 22, ran until Dec. 10. However, followingan incident last month which led to water ingress in one of the ballast tanks, the facility had to be taken ashore for repairs.

This has delayed progress on planned work to further develop Njord.Floatel Superior will therefore remain on station until Feb. 15, 2013.
