ABB adds work for Statoil on Troll A compression offshore Norway

Statoil (OSE:STL;NYSE:STO) has ordered from ABB (NYSE:ABB) the installation of high voltage subsea cables to supply power from shore to the Troll A gas platform offshore Norway.

ZURICH, Switzerland –Statoil (OSE:STL;NYSE:STO) has ordered from ABB (NYSE:ABB) the installation of high voltage subsea cables to supply power from shore to the Troll A gas platform offshore Norway.
The ABB contract includes pre-studies, cable laying, and installation of 350 km (217 mi) of high voltage AC and DC cables, as well as project management and related engineering.
The AC cable will power the safety and automation systems. The DC cables will powertwo new gas compressors.
With this new contract, ABB’s orders in connection with the installation of thetwo new compressors on the Troll A platform amounts to $360 million.
The Troll A concrete deepwater platform is the world’s largest natural gas production platform, 473 m (1,552 ft) tall and weighs 1.2 million tons. The platform can produce as much as 120 MMcm/d (4.24 bcf/d) of gas.
