SANDY BAY, AustraliaShell has contracted MSI to deploy a large metocean mooring array offshore Tanzania in water depths ranging from 53-2,620 m (174-8,596 ft).

The array comprised two AXYS Technologies Watchmate metocean buoys and 12 subsea moorings, measuring waves, currents, and water quality parameters.

MSI conducted the offshore campaign during late February/early March. Equipment was deployed from the RK Offshore vesselGreta K, which had a second crane fitted and was modified in Cape Town for the task.

Shell will use the data for engineering design of surface and subsurface structures related to thedeepwater gas fields discovered by BG, which the company acquired last year.
