ABERDEEN, UK — Rotech Subsea has completed cable de-burial, cut and recovery, and cable burial operations in the German sector of the North Sea for an unnamed subsea contractor.

Using its TRS2 jet trencher, Rotech Subsea performed de-burial of more than 600 m of damaged subsea umbilical buried at 4 m MSBL. The tool, operating in soft sands, which backfilled quickly, reached the de-burial depth of 5 m+ in one pass, positioned at 2.5 m to 3 m above the seabed while progressing at 4 m/min during trenching operations.

Rotech also deployed its RSG-C subsea tool to grab and cut the cable in two locations, recovering the cable to deck. Survey positioning ensured the correct location of the tool, and sonar and camera confirmed the cable had been successfully grabbed and latched within the cutter.

The SG-C completed the cut of the 10-cm cable in less than 10 minutes with the cable then recovered to deck.

During post-lay trenching, the TRS2 completed trenching in two passes: the first at 3 m/min and the second at 5 m/min. In both cases the tool operated at 2 m above the seabed.
