North Sea Breidablikk tieback nearing startup

Equinor has permission from the NPD to start up new equipment for the subsea tieback of the Breidablikk oil field to the Grane platform.

OSLO, Norway — Equinor has permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) to start up new equipment for the subsea tieback of the Breidablikk oil field to the Grane platform, 10 km to the southwest in the North Sea.

Production should begin in October.

The development comprises four six-slot subsea templates. Equinor aims to recover about 190 MMbbl. The estimated cost is about NOK19 billion ($1.7 billion).

The NPD has revealed that four companies submitted applications for acreage for storing CO2 in the North Sea.
