WOODBRIDGE, UK — Wood has asked Amarinth to overhaul three offshore oil containment skid packages managed and operated by Oil Spill Response Ltd. (OSRL).
Six years ago, Amarinth provided 10 API 610 OH1 pumps with Plan 53B seal support systems to the Subsea Well Response Project for a containment toolkit. This is designed to be mobilized by OSRL worldwide to a subsea well incident if well shut-in is not immediately feasible, helping to quickly contain and remove leaked oil from the sea for offloading to tankers.
The three skids in the global containment toolkit must be ready for deployment at all times. Amarinth will take delivery of the skids, each equipped with three pumps on, at its facilities in Rendlesham, UK, over a three-month period.
They will arrive individually, ensuring that two skid packages always remain available for dispatch to an incident.
Each skid will undergo a mechanical and hydraulic assessment of the pumps and replacement of all critical components, with all non-replacement items inspected for wear to ensure they are within tolerance.
Finally, the pumps will be tested to certify them to the same standards as when new.
