ABERDEEN, UK – Maritime Developments (MDL) has completed two installation campaigns in the Norwegian North Sea with TechnipFMC.

Both were performed using MDL reel-lay spreads mobilized on TechnipFMC vessels.

For the first mission an MDL Generation 3 reel-drive system was used to install two umbilicals from 9.6-m (31.5-ft) reels, mobilized on the same vessel employed for operations in the field in 2020, with the same deck layout plans and sea-fastening designs.

The second mission, which called for completion of the replacement of a flexible jumper, deployed a Generation 2 reel-drive system, a TTS-2/140 series tensioner, an overboarding chute and deck deflectors.

In preparation for this mission last summer, MDL had engineered onshore transpooling of the product in Norway. The 2020 scope had comprised transpooling from the storage reel onto the quayside, then onto an installation reel, using the Generation 2 RDS.

Transpooling allowed end termination support frames to be installed to the 8.6-m (28.2-ft) reel in accordance with MDL design drawings.
