LEIDSCHENDAM, the Netherlands – Fugro is supporting the moorings installation campaign for the Mero 1 FPSO in the presalt Santos basin offshore Brazil.

The location is around 180 km (112 mi) from the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

Fugro is deploying its Starfix Navigation Suite and augmented reality QuickVision camera system to assist main contractor Jumbo Maritime in the campaign, which involves installing 35 subsea torpedo piles and 24 mooring lines down to water depths of 1,980 m (6,496 ft).

Work is being performed from Jumbo’s heavy lift crane vessel Fairplayer and is set to take six months to complete.

The Starfix and QuickVision solutions will also supply real-time positioning for subsea construction and installation activities without the need for special hardware mounted on the subsea infrastructure.

This approach, Fugro claims, cuts risk, increases spatial awareness, and streamlines workflows.

The Mero field falls within the Libra production sharing agreement, operated by Petrobras.
