BOULOGNE-BILANCOURT, France – A 6-in. riser welded by Serimax has been recovered from the seabed in Bohai Bay, eastern China, and connected to the semisubmersible platform serving COOEC’s deepwater Lingshui 17-2 project.

The pipeline installation campaign started last year with the first 6-in. steel catenary risers: the final weld of the first SCR was performed last August. Despite COVID-19-related complications, the overall offshore SCR installation windows were not delayed, with the team operating from the vessel HYS201.

Serimax Welding Services, responsible for welding of the 2.93-km (1.82-mi), 6-in. SCR, mobilized 67 personnel from Paris, Kuala Lumpur, and London at the end of July 2020 to Hanan in China.

According to the company, the water depth of 1,450 m (4,757 ft) brought technical challenges due to the SCR’s fatigue sensitivity.

The final campaign of SCR installations (10/12/ 18-in.) will start in the coming weeks.
