LONDON – Neptune Energy has contracted Fugro to survey subsea structures at the Cygnus gas field in the UK southern North Sea.
The scope of work includes inspection of pipelines and umbilicals, spools and communication cables, and routine structural surveys of the Cygnus gas platform jackets.
Fugro will deploy ROVs from the Edda Sun vessel for the inspections. Data processors would normally review the data onboard the vessel, but on this occasion will complete the work from Fugro’s new Remote Operations Centre in Aberdeen.
The team there will use new digital compression and communications technology to interpret data, followed by processing and reporting to Neptune in real time.
This arrangement should speed up the process, Neptune said, while reducing the number of team members on the vessel which would otherwise be required to follow social distancing due to COVID-19.
