STAVANGER, Norway – The Odfjell-operated semisub Deepsea Yantai will drill the Kjøttkake exploration well next summer in the northern Norwegian North Sea.

DNO operates the surrounding license PL1182S, in partnership with Aker BP and Longboat Energy.

The well location is 4 km southeast of the recent Kveikje discover, in which Longboat has a 10% interest.

Longboat says the Lotus (its own name for Kjøttkake) comprises Palaeocene injectite sandstones with good reservoir properties and is supported by seismic amplitudes.

The company drew on its understanding of injectite reservoirs from Kveikje to secure the Lotus prospect via a firm well commitment in Norway’s APA 2022 licensing round.

It estimates prospective resources of 27 MMboe with additional upside of 44 MMboe. If the well is successful, Lotus could feature in the area cluster development that Equinor and its partners are working on, along with Kveikje and other nearby discoveries, tying into infrastructure associated with Troll Field.

Later this summer Longboat will participate in the OMV-operated Velocette well in the Norwegian Sea.
