HOUSTON – Petronas’ floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessel PFLNG SATU, featuring an external turret/mooring system supplied by SOFEC, has produced its first LNG from the Kanowit gas field offshore Sarawak.

The milestone, achieved last month, followed the introduction of gas from theKAKG-A central processing platform on Nov. 14, 2016.

SOFEC anticipates the first commercial offtake of LNG during the current quarter.

The vessel has capacity to produce 1.2 MM metric tons/yr (1.32 MM tons/yr). The 12-leg (3x4) mooring system keeps the facility on station in 75 m (246 ft) of water.

SOFEC adds that the flexible turret design will allow the vessel to be redeployed in future to other marginal and stranded gas fields offshore Malaysia in water depths of 70-200 m (230-656 ft) and to operate for up to 20 years without the need for dry docking.
