LUXEMBOURG – Jan De Nul Group has launched the jackup installation vessel Voltaire at the COSCO Shipping shipyard in Nantong, China.
This will be the second and largest jackup vessel in the company’s fleet. It is expected to be delivered in H2 2022.
Designed in-house, the Voltaire is built to transport, lift, and install offshore wind turbines, transition pieces, and foundations. The 3,000-metric ton (3,307-ton) capacity main crane will enable her to construct the current and future generation of offshore wind farms.
The vessel will also be available to the offshore oil and gas industry for decommissioning.
The Voltaire is said to be fitted with a high-tech jacking system. Four 130-m (427-ft) long legs support the vessel to achieve stable working conditions at water depths up to 80 m (262 ft) and with an elevated load of 16,000 metric tons (17,637 tons).
According to the company, the vessel will be able to run on second-generation biodiesel that reduces the fuel carbon footprint by up to 90%.
It is also equipped with a dual exhaust filter system, removing up to 99% of nanoparticles from emissions using a diesel particulate filter and reducing the NOx emissions and other pollutants by means of a selective catalytic reduction system to levels in accordance with EU Stage V regulation.
The Voltaire’s first assignment is to transport and install up to 14-MW GE Haliade-X turbines at the 3.6-GW Dogger Bank wind farm in the UK North Sea.
