Offshore staff
ABERDEEN, UK – North Star has initiated a study to assess carbon emission reduction measures for its 44 offshore support vessels.
Engineering consultant Houlder, responsible for the study, will advise on appropriate measures for implementation over the next decade.
North Star has facilities in Aberdeen, Newcastle, and Lowestoft on the UK east coast. Houlder will evaluate the fleet of emergency response and rescue vessels, platform supply vessels, and the future (on order) renewables fleet.
It will establish greenhouse gas emissions and carbon intensity across the assets and onshore operations and identify technologies to improve each vessel’s efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Finally, Houlder will consider potential energy-efficient and low-emission propulsion solutions that could be retrofitted to the existing fleet in line with operational requirements, along with available space, displacement, power demand and endurance needs, and alternative fuels of the future.
The assessment and results are due to be completed in 1Q 2022.
