TOKYO – MODEC has confirmed an order from Equinor for the FPSO for the Bacalhau field development offshore Brazil.
Following a sales and purchase agreement for the vessel, signed between the two parties in January 2020, Equinor has now awarded MODEC the EPCI contract.
In addition, MODEC will manage operations and maintenance of the vessel during its first year of oil production before Equinor takes over.
Bacalhau is in the BM-S-8 and Carcará North blocks in the presalt Santos basin, 185 km (115 mi) off the coast of the municipality of Ilhabela/SP.
The FPSO, which will be permanently stationed in 2,500 m (8,202 ft) of water by a spread mooring system supplied by SOFEC, will have a large topsides designed to produce up to 220,000 b/d of crude and to inject up to 530 MMcf/d of associated gas and up to 200,000 b/d of seawater, with a minimum crude storage capacity of 2 MMbbl.
It will also feature a combined cycle power generation system to help reduce emissions of CO2.
This will be the first application of MODEC’s M350 full double-hull design, developed to accommodate larger topsides and larger storage capacity than conventional VLCC tankers, and with a longer design service life.
Finally, it will be the company’s ninth FPSO to serve in Brazil’s presalt region.
