DORDRECHT, the Netherlands – Safeway will supply the latest version of its Safeway Seagull motion-compensated gangway system to Van Oord for the subsea construction vessel Topaz Tangaroa.
The 28-m (92-ft) long walk-to-work system, with 3D crane function, will be installed on the vessel in Rotterdam and will be deployed on a rental basis to transfer personnel and cargo (up to 1,000 kg) for a Taiwanese offshore wind project.
In September 2019, Danish offshore wind developer Ørsted contracted Van Oord for cable installation work on the Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind farms.
Van Oord, which is responsible for the transportation, installation, and burial of the export and inter array cables, will deploying its cable-laying vessel Nexus.
The Topaz Tangaroa will support the Nexus in the campaign. The gangway system, with features including roll compensation, height adjustment, zero impact bumpering/hover mode and counterweight, should ensure a high level of workability throughout the program, Safeway claimed.
Cable installation work is due to start in August 2021 (season1) and again in March 2022 (season 2). The rental contract for the 28 m-long walk-to-work Safeway Seagull gangway will be used over the two campaigns.
