SINGAPORE – Samsung Heavy Industries has delivered the Suezmax DP-2 shuttle tanker Eagle Pilar to AET.
The vessel has been purpose built for long-term charter to Brazil Shipping I Ltd., a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc. This is the first of four DP-2 shuttle tankers due to be delivered to Shell in 2021 and 2022.
This 153,180-dwt vessel has been built in collaboration with DNV GL and Eaglestar and is said to operate in full compliance with IMO NOx Tier 3 and SOx emission requirements.
According to AET, the Eagle Pilar, by design, is about 25% to 30% more fuel efficient than the dynamic positioning shuttle tankers (DPSTs) built in the early part of the last decade. In addition, the vessel features a ballast water treatment system, is equipped with electrical driven cargo pumps for enhanced fuel efficiency, high-power thrusters, and the latest position reference system fully capable of operating in harsh weather conditions.
The Eagle Pilar is expected to be delivered to Shell later this month.
Upon arrival in Brazil, the vessel will join AET’s six other DPSTs already operating there for Petrobras. This will bring the company’s DPST fleet in Brazil to seven with six more DP-2 shuttle tankers scheduled to be delivered in 2021-2022.
