DELFT, the Netherlands – Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit has removed the 14,200-t Ninian Northern platform topsides in the UK northern North Sea in a single-lift operation.

The program, commissioned by the Ninian field operator CNR International, took around two hours to complete, from connecting the vessel’s lifting beams to the platform to the lift itself, effected within 7 seconds.

The Pioneering Spirit will deliver the topsides to the Peterson-Veolia yard in Dales Voe, Shetland, for disposal (the target is a re-use/recycle ratio of more than 97%). It will then sail southeast to Rotterdam for jacket lift system installation works and to prepare for upcoming projects.

Ninian Northern, 160 km (99.4 mi) northeast of the Shetlands, comprised topsides modules for drilling, production and accommodation, supported by an eight-legged jacket in 140 m (459 ft) water depth. All eight steel legs were cut during preparations in 2019.

The Pioneering Spirit will return to the Ninian field in summer 2022 to remove the supporting jacket structure.
