SCHIEDAM, the Netherlands – Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has ordered a 1,600-metric ton leg encircling crane from Huisman.
The company is upgrading one of its jackup vessels with this new crane to make it capable of installing foundations and all known next generation offshore wind turbines.
Upon delivery in 2022, the 1,6000-metric ton leg encircling crane will be the tallest in the market, Huisman claimed.
Capacities of the Huisman leg encircling crane:
- Aux hook 400 metric ton at 165 m (541 ft) above deck (140 m boom)
- 1,250 metric ton at 38.5 m (126 ft) at 155 m (508 ft) above deck (140 m boom)
- 1,600 metric ton at 32 m (105 ft) (105 m boom).
According to Huisman, the crane’s small tail swing allows for optimized use of free deck space. A fully electrically driven system results in reduced maintenance and higher reliability. A Lambda boom design, allowing extension of the boom, results in high flexibility. The stiff construction of the Lambda shaped boom results in reduced motions at the crane tip. Catchers on all blocks/hooks minimize time spent on stowing.
In addition, the small/compact size of the crane in combination with its low own weight and high lifting capacity (1,600 metric tons) make the crane suitable for both the installation of wind turbines (long boom and light weight crane design) and the installation of foundations (short boom and strong crane construction.)
