Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has agreed to take full ownership of the Morecambe offshore wind project from COBRA Group and Flotation Energy.
Closing of the transaction will follow customary approvals and conditions. Flotation Energy will remain as development partner.
Morecambe is a 480-MW fixed-bottom development 30 km from the Lancashire coast in the East Irish Sea. The project lease was awarded under the UK Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4 in 2021; the partners have submitted consent applications.
CIP has previously invested in the 588-MW Beatrice offshore wind farm off northeast Scotland, and it is currently developing the 100-MW Pentland and 3.6-GW Ossian floating offshore wind farms, also in Scottish waters.
The phenomenon of “global terrestrial stilling” may pose a significant reality check on the offshore wind industry. The effects of this phenomenon can be seen in recent “wind droughts” that have impacted Europe and the UK in recent years.
