BERGEN, NorwayOdfjell Oceanwind and partners Source Galileo Norge and Kansai Electric Power Co. have received NOK 2 billion (about $190 million) in capex grant for the GoliatVIND project.

GoliatVIND is a 75-MW demonstration project for floating offshore wind offshore Norway. The project has selected Odfjell Oceanwind’s Deepsea Star semisubmersible foundation technology and will use Odfjell Oceanwind’s supply chain.

The partners are collaborating with Vår Energi on the development of the wind park, which will be connected to the Goliat FPSO platform, using an existing power cable to shore. The wind park should start operating in 2027, with the experience said to be transferable to other planned developments offshore Norway, including at Utsira Nord in the North Sea.

Odfjell Oceanwind CEO Per Lund said this grant is "an important step towards us demonstrating the Deepsea Star with 15-MW turbines."
