ABERDEEN, UK—Balmoral has released a new version of its HexDefence system to address scouring around jacket foundations for offshore fixed wind turbines.
It builds on the previous HexDefence development for offshore monopile structures, which integrated seabed protection and flow reduction with a view to lowering operational costs and preventing cable failure.
The jacket system can be installed at quayside, eliminating the need for additional installation vessels and rock dumping, Balmoral claimed, ensuring the scour protection is active from point of foundation installation.
The company developed the jacket system following positive feedback from wind farm developers and industry bodies to the initial HexDefence development.
One of the system’s main advantages is said to be its potential to revive abandoned projects and locations previously considered unviable due to the volume of rock required for scour protection.
