NORWICH, UK— Acteon subsidiary Benthic has completed a geotechnical investigation for Equinor and partner Polenergia’s Baltyk II and II wind farms in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea.
Benthic conducted cone penetration tests using its portable remotely operated drill (PROD) system to support the design of foundations for about 100 wind turbines and two offshore substations at 16 locations in 40-55 m water depths.
The PROD, supported by UTEC, was deployed from the Ocean Zephyr offshore supply vessel with the three-month project completed this March. Wind farm construction should begin early next year, followed by first power in 2026.
Jonathan Watt, Benthic managing director, said the PROD encountered some of the most challenging soil conditions the company had encountered to date, including layers of dense sands and medium-dense silty sands.
