DELFT, the Netherlands — Allseas will install the offshore substation for the Yeu and Noirmoutier islands’ wind farm development offshore western France, the company announced earlier this month.
Main offshore contractor DEME Offshore has booked Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit vessel to install the substation jacket and topside in the first half of 2024.
The `lift and set down’ job is said to be similar to the Saint-Nazaire installation that the vessel performed for DEME in the same region in August 2021.
Matthijs Groenewegen, Allseas' vice president of projects, said, “Weather and tidal conditions at the installation location can be challenging, which we’re able to mitigate thanks to the unprecedented size and stability of our installation vessel.”
Éoliennes en Mer des Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier (EMYN) is responsible for the development, a consortium which includes the Ocean Winds joint venture between ENGIE and EDPR, Sumitomo, La Banque des Territoires and Vendée Energie.
Allseas will manage the jacket and topside installations while DEME will install the pin piles for the substation foundations and transport the jacket and topside to the offshore location.
Once in the field, the jacket and topside structures will be transferred to Pioneering Spirit, which will install the components using its 5,000-t crane.
Yeu-Noirmoutier is 16 km offshore in waters are up to 36 m deep. The completed development will have a total capacity of 496 MW.
