DONCASTER, UK — Bridon-Bekaert Ropes Group (BBRG) has taken an equity investment in TFI (Technology from Ideas) Marine in Dublin, Ireland, concerning digitally enabled offshore mooring solutions.
TFI has developed load reduction devices for floating offshore wind and offshore fish farm mooring systems.
SeaSpring is a self-powering, polymer-based mooring component designed to provide permanent digital monitoring of mooring systems. The device is said to reduce the mooring loads and fatigue that floating platforms experience as a result of wind thrust and wave motion, also cutting the footprint, costs, wear and maintenance of mooring systems.
TFI will use the investment to develop a manufacturing plant in Ireland, and the partners plan a commercial collaboration involving a "smart solution" of BBRG synthetic ropes equipped with TFI load reduction devices.
BBRG’s MoorLine synthetic ropes are designed for floating offshore wind applications in demanding conditions. The mooring solution should extend the overall lifespan of the mooring system and lower the maintenance costs and mooring footprints, BBRG said.
The company’s mooring systems feature in various demonstrator floating offshore wind projects in Japan, France, US, UK, China, Spain and Norway.
