HOFSTADE-AALST, Belgium – Vineyard Wind has contracted Jan De Nul Group and JDR Cable Systems to supply and install about 130 mi (209 km) of inter-array cables for the Vineyard Wind 1 project offshore Massachusetts.
The 66-kV inter-array cables connecting 62 GE Haliade-X turbines will transfer electricity to an offshore substation for transmission to the grid.
According to Jan De Nul, part of the contract calls for installation support and subsea training to individuals with an electrical background, creating about 40 new full-time jobs in Massachusetts.
The 800-MW Vineyard Wind 1 project will be located 15 mi (24 km) off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard. This will be the first commercial-scale offshore wind project in the US. It is expected to generate electricity for more than 400,000 homes and businesses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and create 3,600 full-time equivalent job-years over the life of the project.
Vineyard Wind is a joint venture between Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.
