DALLAS, Texas – Kosmos Energy and its partners are targeting sanction for the Winterfell oil development in the US Gulf of Mexico in mid-year.
Recently, the company revealed that the Winterfell-2 appraisal well had delivered around 40 m of net oil pay in the first and second horizons, with better than anticipated oil saturation and porosity.
The exploration tail also discovered an oil-bearing horizon in a deeper reservoir, which appears to be prospective in blocks immediately to the north.
Kosmos estimates resources in Winterfell at around 100 MMbbl. The planned low carbon development could produce first oil within 18 months of project sanction.
